Lately I have seen a lot about the new Google Site Map. The “experts” are saying that Google is moving to a new way of indexing web sites. Google now has a beta process in place, where you can submit your website to them with a site map in xml format.

A site map is just a listing of the web pages on your website.

Having people submit their web sites to Google in xml format, does make sense. When you look at the millions of different web sites, and the hundreds or even thousands of web pages on some websites, how could Google index them all? Perhaps having to index millions of web pages is why it takes about three months to get a new web site listed on Google.

It makes sense to have web sites submitted in xml format, making it easier and quicker for Google to scan pages listed in the xml feed.

I have seen claims that if you submit your website map to Google, in xml format, you will get listed in just a few days. I’m not sure I believe this, so to verify these claims, I have submitted a number of my websites to Google using the xml site map. My sites are actually already listed in Google, but many of my pages have not yet been indexed.

How did I create my xml site maps? I found a great free program that crawls your site, lists your web pages and allows you to choose /exclude the web pages that you want indexed. It then creates the xml file and submits your xml file to Google.

I have seen programs of this type being sold for about $100. If you have a web host that supports php, this free program will work for you.

In a few days I’ll let you know if using the Google xml site map has helped in getting unlisted pages listed with Google.

Are you using a high speed internet service?

I have been on high speed internet, via a cable modem, for about 3 years now. I’m not always a fan of my provider, Comcast high speed internet, but I love cable internet service.

This bad thing about using a high speed service for even a day, is that you can never go back. If I had to go back to dial up service, I think I would just quit working online.

It’s not just the speed, but also the convenience. I love that I’m connected all the time. I don’t have to dial up and login to see if I have email, or to do a quick online search. I just go to the computer and I’m already online and whatever I need is there.

I know high speed internet service is more costly than dial up and high speed internet is not for everyone. But, if you spend more than a few hours a day online, you should consider going high speed.

High speed broadband internet is not available in all areas. You may, or may not, have access to Cable Modem, DSL or Satellite in your area. You can find out what is available in your area by going here and inputing your phone number here http://highspeedinternet.mikestopten.com/ .

Just be warned - once you go high speed it will be extremely difficult to go back!
